The meaning of life from a mother’s point of view

Life is full of uncertainties
I sit here thinking
Scared I must admit
With no power or control
God is my only guide

What would I do without you
Where would I go if I lost you
This life will have no meaning
That I say while tearing

Knowing it’s beyond me
Hoping and praying
I ask God to keep you safe
All the days of your life

May he grant me today
This wish in my heart
For me to always be there
In each and every step of the way

To see you grow into a man
That my grandchildren
And your grandchildren
We may see

Dear Mother,

I take this opportunity to educate you about the importance of hand washing with soap.

Children should be taught to wash their hands on five key occasions: before eating breakfast, lunch and dinner, after visiting the toilet and during their bath. This culture should be instilled in them so that even as they grow they continue with it.

Did you know that over five children die every day due to diarrhoea? It is worse in Africa. Diarrhoea cases are often times caused by contaminated food and/or water. If you can get children to wash their hands before handling food and after visiting the toilet, they can be protected from this deadly disease.

As a mother, you also need to wash your hands before preparing food at all times. Avoid giving children foods and drinks that may be contaminated. It is also your duty to educate other adults who may be ignorant of this fact.

Take charge and save innocent lives!

Always,
MinZeph.

Dear baby daddy

I am writing this letter in the hopes that you are going to read it.

Looking back
Today I look back and I must admit, am happy. I am happy because I believe in the future. The past will remain in the past. I also realise that the present will shape the future and that is why I am happy. Thank you for accepting our son, thank you for acknowledging him as yours. Thank you for the support you have been showing us. I have forgotten all that has happened. My focus is in the future.

Yet I ponder
When I look into the future, I do not get a clear picture. It’s a bit hazy. You moved on, am left hanging. I do not know what to do. Do I also move on? Do I wait and see if you will come back? And what if you don’t? What if I move on and you come back? What if I do nothing and you also keep on moving on with your life? What do I do?

That is where am stuck
Until I get a clear picture, I’ll just remain hanging. I am down right now, but am certainly not out! I shall rise up again; I’ll soar high with the eagles. I shall rule my kingdom like the lion again and I’ll take charge like the rhino! Life will be beautiful again! For now we are happy. My son and I are very happy. Maybe it is because I have started rising. It is not easy but it is a journey I must embark on.

As always,
Min Zeph.

Mothers of today!

Most “modern mothers” nowadays have neglected their natural duty of breastfeeding.  Unknown to them, they not only deny the child’s right to good and pure health but also miss out on natures chance of staying healthy and in some cases, losing weight! Ironically, these so called “modern mothers” skip this exercise because they want to remain young and hip. Others even go a step further and refuse to give their babies a chance to a healthy start citing that they will lose shape or figure since “their breasts will be saggy”. This is indeed sad. I can only sympathize with those children.

Nursing promotes bonding between mother and baby and creates a lifelong connection between the two. Additionally, it makes the baby feel loved, comfortable and safe.

Benefits to the child
  • ·         It is readily available; your baby does not have to wait for you to prepare his/her food while hungry. Why would you keep a hungry baby waiting anyway?
