Baby’s enriched porridge

Baby’s porridge does not have to be all starch. It can be enriched and flavoured so that it is not only delicious, but also nutritious.

Ingredients
¾ cup Millet
1 tbls Amaranth flour
2 tbls finely grinded roast Groundnuts
1 tbls Soya beans flour
¼ cup Refined maize meal
Milk (optional)
Sugar (optional)

Cooking Method

  1. Bring 8 cups of water to boil in a saucepan.
  2. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl then add a little water to form a thick paste. Ensure you mix all the flour into the water.
  3. Pour the baby porridge flour paste into the boiling water and keep string until it thickens.
  4. Let it cook for about 12 minutes.
  5. You may opt to add milk and sugar to taste.
  6. You may serve it hot or cold according to your preference.

Notes
This is a protein enriched porridge that is healthy for a baby. Even babies that are being weaned can have this porridge. If however you find that you do not have one of the ingredients, to not worry, use what you have and be creative!

Dear baby daddy

I am writing this letter in the hopes that you are going to read it.

Looking back
Today I look back and I must admit, am happy. I am happy because I believe in the future. The past will remain in the past. I also realise that the present will shape the future and that is why I am happy. Thank you for accepting our son, thank you for acknowledging him as yours. Thank you for the support you have been showing us. I have forgotten all that has happened. My focus is in the future.

Yet I ponder
When I look into the future, I do not get a clear picture. It’s a bit hazy. You moved on, am left hanging. I do not know what to do. Do I also move on? Do I wait and see if you will come back? And what if you don’t? What if I move on and you come back? What if I do nothing and you also keep on moving on with your life? What do I do?

That is where am stuck
Until I get a clear picture, I’ll just remain hanging. I am down right now, but am certainly not out! I shall rise up again; I’ll soar high with the eagles. I shall rule my kingdom like the lion again and I’ll take charge like the rhino! Life will be beautiful again! For now we are happy. My son and I are very happy. Maybe it is because I have started rising. It is not easy but it is a journey I must embark on.

As always,
Min Zeph.

We are now walking

OK, Zeph decided to skip crawling. He couldn't see himself down there. So yes, He is now walking with support. I should make a point and get a video of that uploaded here. I wonder what he will say when I tell him he never crawled once he is all grown up. I also wonder what he will say when he starts talking. He looks like he is going to be very talkative.

He also looks like a leader. I cant wait for him to be one year old. Although things have really become complicated for us right now. I do not know how our future will be. I can only wait and see.

Mothers of today!

Most “modern mothers” nowadays have neglected their natural duty of breastfeeding.  Unknown to them, they not only deny the child’s right to good and pure health but also miss out on natures chance of staying healthy and in some cases, losing weight! Ironically, these so called “modern mothers” skip this exercise because they want to remain young and hip. Others even go a step further and refuse to give their babies a chance to a healthy start citing that they will lose shape or figure since “their breasts will be saggy”. This is indeed sad. I can only sympathize with those children.

Nursing promotes bonding between mother and baby and creates a lifelong connection between the two. Additionally, it makes the baby feel loved, comfortable and safe.

Benefits to the child
  • ·         It is readily available; your baby does not have to wait for you to prepare his/her food while hungry. Why would you keep a hungry baby waiting anyway?

Baby kicking off the blanket

After a while i got used to the idea of not having to cover him with a blanket. I have to employ other tactics in order to ensure he stays warm at night. For example, dressing him as if we were at the north pole!

They seem to be understanding each other. Communication is very important!
